About the Island Breeze

The Island Breeze is a monthly newspaper, published 12 times each year, that serves the Hatteras and Ocracoke island communities on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Its audience is a resident population of fewer than 6,000 and a very large number of tourists from Easter until Thanksgiving. (It is estimated that three million people visit the Cape Hatteras National Seashore each year.)

The circulation of the newspaper ranges from 11,000 to 35,000 in free distribution, depending on the season, and a paid circulation of about 2,350. The paid circulation includes non-resident property owners and regular visitors who want to keep up with the news on the islands.

 To celebrate the past, illuminate the present, and explore the future of the Hatteras and  Ocracoke communities.

 To give readers a sense of the communities by writing about their people, history, current events, and issues.

 To give readers information that they can't get in other publications about their community.

 To help visitors make the most of their stay on the islands

 To help residents and non-resident property owners understand the forces that are shaping the communities and defining their future.

 To become a significant force in forging a sense of community and shaping public opinion.

The Island Breeze would like to hear your stories about your vacations on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. We want to hear about your special and unusual experiences here and your fantastic fishing trips or about that fish that got away. We want to know where you would like to go and what you like to do and what your favorite restaurants and shops are, and we'd like to have a photograph also. Please identify the people in the photograph and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want us to return it.
